My Running Story
I’m Ed, and I came to serious running relatively late. My journey really began after a major accident in 2020, when I was hit by a car while out running and suffered multiple fractures. I was told that I might never walk properly again. During my recovery, I decided that I was going to run a marathon.
Eighteen months later, after rebuilding my strength and effectively learning how to run again, I completed my first marathon in Milton Keynes in 3:12. Since then, running has taken me to some incredible places, including the Boston, London, Berlin and Chicago Marathons, with New York also becoming part of my journey.
Runnabl3 grew from that experience.
The channel combines my love of running with my fascination for running shoes. I test shoes in real conditions — from daily training sessions and long runs to Parkruns, 5Ks, 10Ks, half marathons and full marathons.
Rather than simply talking about specifications, I want to understand how a shoe actually feels when you run in it.
I look at cushioning, responsiveness, stability, grip, fit, comfort, weight, durability, rocker geometry, carbon plates, PEBA foams and overall performance. Most importantly, I try to explain what type of runner each shoe might suit and whether it genuinely represents good value.
You’ll find reviews from all the major running brands, including Nike, adidas, ASICS, HOKA, Saucony, New Balance, Brooks, PUMA, Mizuno, On, Topo Athletic, Altra and Under Armour.
I’m also particularly interested in the rapidly developing world of Chinese running shoes and regularly test brands such as Qiaodan, Li-Ning, Xtep, Anta and 361°. Some of these shoes are now offering extraordinary technology and performance at prices significantly below many established Western brands, making them one of the most interesting areas in running footwear today.
You’ll see everything from lightweight racing shoes and carbon-plated super shoes to super trainers, daily trainers, max-cushioned shoes and trail shoes.
But Runnable is about more than shoes.
Running has helped me through injury, loss, illness and some difficult periods in my life. It has given me goals, structure, friendships and experiences that I never imagined possible.
That’s why the channel also covers races, training, Parkrun adventures and the wider running community.
I want Runnable to be useful whether you’re chasing a sub-3 marathon, trying to break 20 minutes for 5K, looking for your next pair of shoes or simply getting started with running.
I don’t believe there is one perfect shoe or one correct way to run. Different runners need different things.
My aim is simply to test the shoes, run the races, share what I learn and hopefully help you make better decisions about your own running.
Most importantly, keep setting goals, keep enjoying the process and keep moving forward.
