Li-Ning Feidian 6 Elite Overview

The Feidian 6 Elite is the softer and more forgiving sibling of the Feidian 6 Ultra.

Where the Ultra is firmer, stiffer and more aggressive, the Elite is all about bounce, softness and momentum.

It has a very energetic ride, with a midsole that compresses quickly and then rebounds strongly, helping you maintain pace without feeling like the shoe is beating your legs up.

The closest comparison for me is the Hoka Cielo X1 2.0. Both shoes give you that soft, propulsive, almost uncontrolled bouncing sensation that can be incredibly enjoyable once you learn how to work with it.

Key Stats

In my UK size 9:

• Weight: approximately 225g

• Heel stack: approximately 39mm

• Forefoot stack: approximately 33.5mm

• Drop: approximately 6mm

• Upper: Boom Fiber booty-style construction

• Midsole: Super Boom foam with softer capsule layer

• Plate: Carbon plate

• Outsole: GCU rubber

• Price paid: approximately £140–£147

The 225g weight isn't especially light compared with some of today's sub-200g racing shoes, but importantly, it doesn't feel heavy when you're running.

The effective drop also feels lower than the stated 6mm because the heel foam compresses so much under load.

Upper – 5/5

The upper uses a one-piece booty-style Boom Fiber construction.

For my wide feet, this works extremely well.

The material stretches and wraps around the shape of the foot rather than feeling restrictive. Lockdown was excellent for me and I didn't experience any movement during the race.

The heel counter is flexible at the top but has more structure lower down, while there is a small amount of padding around the heel and collar.

It is also very breathable.

If you have narrow feet, you may need to spend a little more time tightening the lacing system, but for my foot shape this was almost perfect.

Upper score: 5/5.

Midsole – 5/5

The midsole is the star of the shoe.

There are effectively two key sections: the main foam and the much softer encapsulated layer sitting within the platform.

The exact material composition of that capsule isn't completely clear, but the important thing is what happens when you run.

You get:

Compression → rapid decompression → strong energy return.

The Elite is incredibly soft and bouncy.

If you enjoy the Hoka Cielo X1 or Cielo X1 2.0, there is a very good chance you'll enjoy this shoe.

You can hit the ground hard, compress the midsole and almost bound through your stride.

But despite the softness, it doesn't feel dead or excessively mushy. There is enough plate engagement and enough rebound to convert that compression into forward movement.

The rocker is reasonably aggressive, although not quite as pronounced as the Hoka.

That makes the Elite slightly easier to control and less demanding in terms of where you need to land.

It is one of those midsoles that simply makes running fun.

Midsole score: 5/5.

Outsole – 5/5

The outsole performed brilliantly during the Chichester 10K.

Conditions were wet, there were large puddles and the surface was slippery in places.

I had no noticeable loss of grip.

Li-Ning's GCU rubber is thin but extremely tacky and appears to provide a very good balance between grip, durability and weight.

There is a large central cavity that could potentially collect stones, but during the race I didn't have any problems.

Compared with something like the Hoka Cielo X1 2.0, the grip is considerably better.

Outsole score: 5/5.

Stability – 3.5/5

This is not a stable shoe.

The foam is extremely soft and there is not a huge amount of structure in the upper.

When cornering quickly, you need to be conscious of your foot placement because landing too far towards the medial or lateral edge can make the shoe feel like it wants to collapse slightly.

There is some sidewall structure helping channel the foot through the centre of the platform, which prevents it becoming completely uncontrollable.

And unlike the Hoka Cielo X1 2.0, there isn't a large medial cut-out encouraging the ankle to cave inward.

So although it is unstable, I actually find it more manageable than some comparable high-stack racers.

Stability score: 3.5/5.

Speed – 5/5

This shoe is seriously quick.

The evidence for me is simple: 35:11 for 10K, a new PB.

My previous best had stood for around a year and a half, and I took nearly 20 seconds off it in poor conditions.

The Elite makes it easy to maintain rhythm because you're continually getting that compression and rebound from underneath the foot.

It particularly suits runners who bound when they increase speed — runners who lengthen their stride and put more force through the ground.

If you're a very high-cadence runner, there may be lighter options such as the ASICS Metaspeed Sky Tokyo that feel more natural.

But the Elite sits nicely between those two running styles.

You can increase cadence, but you can also hit the shoe hard and exploit that huge bounce.

I would put it very close to the Hoka Cielo X1 2.0 for outright speed and only slightly behind the Puma Fast-R Nitro Elite 3.

Speed score: 5/5.

Durability – 4/5

It's too early to make a definitive statement about durability, but initial signs are very good.

The GCU outsole rubber appears particularly hard wearing and should protect the midsole extremely well.

As with any super shoe, I wouldn't expect everyday-trainer mileage from it.

But compared with some racers that use large areas of exposed foam, the Elite looks like it should cope well with a substantial amount of racing and faster training.

Initial durability score: 4/5.

Feidian 6 Elite vs Feidian 6 Ultra

This is probably the most interesting comparison.

Feidian 6 Elite

The Elite is:

• Softer

• Bouncier

• More forgiving

• More flexible

• More fun

• Better for runners who bound

• Easier to enjoy immediately

Feidian 6 Ultra

The Ultra is:

• Firmer

• Stiffer

• Snappier

• More aggressive

• More focused on forward propulsion

• Potentially more efficient

The Ultra feels like the more serious pure racing machine.

But the Elite is the shoe I'd probably rather spend more time running in because it delivers almost the same speed while being far more forgiving and enjoyable.

Who Is It Good For?

One of the strengths of the Feidian 6 Elite is its versatility.

5K – Excellent

There is more than enough speed for a fast 5K.

If you like an aggressive, bouncy racer, this could be an absolute weapon.

10K – Excellent

My 35:11 PB proves how effective it can be over this distance.

It allows you to find a rhythm and continue bouncing through the stride without the ride becoming overly harsh.

Half Marathon – Excellent

Potentially one of its best distances.

You get speed, cushioning and enough forgiveness to stay comfortable as fatigue develops.

Marathon – Excellent potential

I would seriously consider using this for a marathon.

The only concern would be whether the extremely soft foam eventually contributes to foot fatigue.

But compared with something like the Saucony Endorphin Elite 2, I feel that the Li-Ning returns considerably more energy from the compression.

So this is absolutely in contention for marathon racing.

Value – 5/5

This might be the most impressive part of the shoe.

I paid around £140–£147 through AliExpress.

At that price, it is exceptional.

Many premium super shoes are now around £230–£250, and performance-wise the Feidian 6 Elite belongs in exactly the same conversation.

You're getting:

• Top-tier speed

• Premium foam

• Carbon plate

• Excellent outsole

• Outstanding upper

• Genuine race performance

for considerably less money.

At around £140, this is almost a no-brainer if you enjoy soft, energetic super shoes.

Value score: 5/5.

Chichester 10K Race Performance

The race was a particularly useful test because the conditions weren't ideal.

It was cold, wet and there were plenty of puddles.

Despite that, I ran 35:11, finishing 112th in a very competitive field and setting a new personal best.

The shoe performed brilliantly.

The outsole gave me complete confidence in the wet and the midsole allowed me to maintain pace by simply settling into the bounce and rhythm.

Most importantly, I didn't feel like I had to fight the shoe.

Once I had the stride working properly, it kept me moving.

That race convinced me that this isn't simply an interesting Chinese super shoe.

It's a genuinely competitive super shoe full stop.

Final Thoughts

The Li-Ning Feidian 6 Elite is one of the best super shoes I've used.

If you want something firm, direct and highly aggressive, the Ultra may be the better option.

If you want something light-feeling, incredibly bouncy, forgiving and genuinely fun while still delivering serious speed, I think the Elite is exceptional.

It's not perfect.

The stability isn't great and some runners may find the foam simply too soft.

But once you learn how to control it, the combination of softness, energy return and propulsion makes it an incredibly enjoyable racing shoe.

And then there's the price.

At roughly £140, you're getting a shoe that can compete with racers costing £100 more.

For me, the Chichester race proved it.

10K PB: 35:11.

That's probably the strongest endorsement I can give it.
